Spring Cleaning Front Closet

Ok.  I’ve put it off for far too long.  I can’t blame the weather on not feeling the spring cleaning vibe anymore.

This week I vow to conquer our front closet.

Our coats hang in this closet, games and random decorating things live on the one shelf and on the floor is a poor excuse for organizing our works shoes that get kicked off the second we walk in the door {the two of us working in a restaurant have Lord knows what on the bottom of our kicks after a shift and we aren’t tracking that through the house}.  Turns out Hubs kicks off most his shoes into the front closet.  Better than laying in the middle of the floor.  Small battles people, small battles.

While I love the idea of the open area for seating, hooks and storage bins I have a feeling it would be a never ending battle to keep the area neat.  I’m loving the idea of hooks all around and painting the inside of the closet a pop of color.  Let’s face it, hooks are way easier than hangers and the one hook I do have on the back of the door seems to get the most action.  Although the closet has a door that I don’t plan on getting rid of, I like the idea of hidden storage for the top shelf in the way of bins or DIY-ing it and covering boxes we already have in fabric or paper.  Durable bins or baskets on the floor would be great for kicking off those shoes and boots as well as extra space for storage for frequenting used decorating items.  Shoe cubbies would also be helpful freeing up even more floor space for additional storage.

The closet is fairly deep so I may even put a small chest of drawers I have in there to keep gloves, scarves and even my bags that I use often organized.  Oh, the possibilities!

Do you have a front closet that gets a lot of traffic?  How do you organize?
